GRÉGORY : Hello, Mo. It’s been a while that we’ve been talking together. We’ve been recording together an episode about happiness. Actually, that’s the most listened episode on my podcast. Thank you for that.
MO : Yeah, that’s great news. It shows what people are looking for.
GRÉGORY : Yeah. So we are not together right now, you’re in the Dominican Republic. The subject I wanted to talk about with you is spirituality, because it’s been a while that I’m thinking that the world need a new spirituality somehow, like not specifically based on the religion, but based on how we envision life and success. I was wondering who would be the best person to talk about that? And I thought, well, Mo would be just perfect to talk about what the new spirituality of the humankind should be.
MO : I’m definitely not the best person for that. But let’s give it a try. Let’s give it a try. It really depends on how you define spirituality. There are so many brand names that we live with in our world that are actually very truly stripped of their true value. When we describe something with a word, we truly dilute its essence. So if I use the word “tower”, there are many towers around the world, but can you compare the Eiffel Tower to the whatever residential tower that someone built in here in Cabarrot ? No, but we use the word tower and in doing so we lose the essence of what the word actually means. I think spirituality is probably one of the most misused words in our world today, it really is misunderstood. It’s mixed up with the word religion. It was sort of restricted to the religious institutions for many, many years that if you want to be spiritual, you have to come through us. Now perhaps it’s being restricted to California, you know, with the wide, flowy dresses. If you want to be spiritual, let us show you what spirituality. Because of my engineering approach to things, I tend to always start with an accurate definition that I can associate with. So in my own personal definition of spirituality, it comes from spirit. And spirit is the religious word used to describe the other part of you. I think that’s really where the core of the conversation starts. I mean, is this the extent of us is our physical form the total of who we are, or is there more to the human than just our physical form, and if there is whether you want to call it a spirit or you want to call it anything else, it doesn’t matter. Spirituality would be how do you relate to that other part of you, to find that completeness of you that goes beyond just the physical into the spiritual, if you want. You would also realize that if there is more to us than our physical form, then there could be more to everything physical than just the physical. There could be more to the universe than just its physical elements. There could be something bigger than all of us, which in religion is called the divine or God or Allah, or whatever it is that you want to call it. The views of it are massively varied if you actually study across religions. Again, if there is something bigger than all of us, then how do we relate to it? That’s what spirituality in my definition is all about.
